About SimpleHarvest
A reference on root-crop post-harvest handling for small-scale growers in Poland.
What This Site Covers
SimpleHarvest focuses on one specific stage of vegetable growing: what happens between harvest and the kitchen. For beets, carrots, and parsnips grown on small plots — działki, ogrody przydomowe, or rural kitchen gardens — the post-harvest period determines how much of the crop is actually usable through winter.
The articles here cover the practical decisions involved: when to harvest, how to clean and condition roots before storage, and what storage conditions maintain quality over several months. The content is oriented toward the Polish growing calendar and the typical storage infrastructure available on small homesteads.
Sources and Approach
Content draws on published horticultural literature, guidance from the Polish Institute of Horticulture (Instytut Ogrodnictwa), and established international references including FAO post-harvest manuals. No proprietary research is cited. Where exact figures are not available from public sources, neutral descriptions are used instead.
